End of/Beginning of Day 2/3

Soreness has kicked in. I wonder how much exercise I can endure later today.

1 Cup Fat-free Vanilla yogurt3/4 Cup Special K Vanilla and Almond Cereal1/2 BananaApprox. 265 CaloriesThis breakfast was a partial success. It was super easy to prepare. I mixed the cereal in the yogurt because I didn’t want the additional calories/serving of milk (I already know I’ll get more dairy from the cheese in my sandwich later and the froyo for my dinner) plus the yogurt would be more filling. I should have added the cereal in as I ate, as oppose to mixing it all in the beginning. It became soggy really quick, and was somewhat disgusting towards the end of the meal. I would’ve had a full banana but half was all that was left.

Day 2: 072011-First workout

30 minutes of briskly walking on my treadmill again. I killed two birds with one stone; watching Pretty Little Liars on my laptop as I exercised. After the first fifteen minutes, I noticed an irritation at the back of my left ankle. I didn’t want it to cut open from the constant strain from the friction of my shoe, so I decided to wrap it up. The last fifteen minutes were quite tedious, I was going super slow at 2 mph and wanted my breakfast already.

124 calories burned.

Yesterday was the first day of my new diet. I exercised lightly to get back into the swing of things. Midday, I went grocery shopping due to the lack of healthy options already in the fridge and pantry. I was so pumped; bought some asparagus, sweet potatoes, spinach, mushrooms, 1-32 oz. tub of vanilla yogurt, 5 Yoplait dessert yogurts, salmon filets, and 2 energy bars all for under $30! Eating healthy should be easy since I have the food I like, right? Wrong.

I truly saw how much of a test this will be for myself. It was pretty tough not snacking on junk food when it was right under my nose. I had helped my sister decorate cupcakes. I could not lick the frosting. I could not eat the Oreo’s we used as topping. I could not taste the final product no matter how appealing it looked. Having deprived myself of the sugary goodness, made me want to eat something else even more. To trick my hunger, I grabbed a water bottle and continually sipped until the last drop. It seemed to work.

"Resist temptation" are probably the two most vital words in my head right now. I made a rule of no eating after dinner. It’s probably the toughest habit for me to follow because I’m so accustomed to snacking late night, especially when I have work. When I get off at 10:30, it’s not unusual for me to roll through the drive-thru of McDonald’s on my way home. So long McChicken, four-piece nuggets, and fries, you will be missed.

Mind over matter!
